My name is Allyson Gomez. I feel so blessed and grateful for the opportunity to be a global citizen and participate in Symantec’s Service Corps (SSC). I have been working in HR for a little under four years and am currently in Leadership & Employee Development. In my spare time, you can find me studying (currently pursuing a Masters in Organizational Development), working out, hiking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
My core group consists of Marq Bauman and Prakash PP. Together we will be analyzing the organizational structure of the Center of Research, Education, and Development (CIED). Some deliverables include an organizational chart, succession planning, and change management guidance. With all the changes in Symantec and my educational background, this seems like a perfect match. I hope to be able to provide the guidance they need to continue to be sustainable. (More to come as I learn more!).
Today the ten of us had an orientation session and dinner with Pyxera Global (the non-profit partnering with Symantec to make the SSC Peru 2014 possible). We did a lot of team building exercises: human bingo, identifying learning styles, scavenger hunt (it was a statue!*), etc. I facilitated a session on the Leadership Success Profile (LSP) specifically focusing on “How to Build Strong Teams,” and everyone had the opportunity to model “Learn-Teach-Learn.” All of the activities went really well; we learned a lot about each other’s values, perspectives, and personalities. It was an excellent way to start building rapport and trust. Lastly we toured Arequipa* and went to dinner*.
It was great meeting everyone in person, sharing stories, and exchanging ideas. We have a very strong, intelligent team. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us. It’s midnight here, so I must get some rest. Tomorrow we will be meeting with our clients in person for the first time. Wish us luck!
*I will work on posting pictures in my next blog.
